Its mostly "C++ Redistributables" that have been installed via some legacy software. and these won't work if you remove the specific version that software was compiled with. Even a still supported software may use these libraries. You don't know which software installed them. Having the runtime installed will most likely not be an issue. but keep in mind it's not just about upgrading as code written on one version may not be entirely compatible with newer versions and may require some re-work. Now, if you have the actual Visual Studio software installed (as in creating and compile your own software) this will be an issue. The runtime provide additional libraries (dlls) allowing you to run software compiled with an older version of the IDE.
